hildren’s first opened its doors in 1954 and is San Diego’s region’s only designated pediatric trauma center and the only area hospital dedicated solely to pediatric care.

From minor illness and injury to the most severe medical emergency, Children’s has specially qualified clinical staff and affiliated physicians that provide a full continuum of care.

Children’s has 15 neighborhood centers offering primary care and specialized services. Children’s is also offers programs, including health education, early intervention and counseling, child abuse prevention and child safety issues.

In 1982 a Research Center was formed at Children’s Hospital to administer federal funding for research in children’s health.
